Dr. Kuo is a fellowship trained, board certified Anesthesiologist and Pain Medicine Specialist. He has dedicated his practice to the treatment of pain, emphasizing a non-surgical approach to acute and chronic pain with the ultimate goal of returning patients to their active lives.

A focus of his practice is dedicated to Interventional Pain Management, which involves simple procedures under the direct guidance of an imaging machine. The ability of medical imaging (fluoroscopy) allows Dr. Kuo to very accurately and precisely deliver medications or block nerves that may be the source of pain, accelerating the healing process and helping to restore function.
A recent focus of his attention has been in the field of Regenerative and Anti-Aging Medicine. Platelet Rich Plasma and Stem Cell treatments are available for degenerative joint or spinal conditions. Dr Kuo has been involved in trials of intradiscal stem cell injections for degenerative disc disease. These treatments may hold significant promises for the future of medicine.

The intensive study of Pain Medicine at three of the world’s leading centers of medicine (Top Ranked Hospital in New York-NYPH, Top Ranked Cancer Center in the US-MSKCC, Top Ranked Orthopedic Hospital in the US-HSS) has led Dr. Kuo to obtain a comprehensive knowledge of different pain syndromes and conditions, ranging from sports injuries to post-operative pain to cancer pain.

Dr. Kuo is a board certified Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) with additional board certification in Pain Medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and Fellow of the American Academy of Pain Management (AAPM).

Driven by his dedication to medicine and his specialty, Dr. Kuo continually attends education seminars and conferences and keeps up to date with the latest developments in the field of pain management. In his free time he enjoys time with his dogs, snowboarding, cycling, and creating art work, many pieces which can be seen in the office.

Matthew Wert, M.D. is an attending orthopaedic surgeon and the new Director of Sports Medicine at New York Methodist Hospital. Dr. Wert is a dual fellowship-trained, orthopaedic surgeon specializing in arthroscopic surgery, sports medicine and cartilage repair and restoration. Dr. Wert was an orthopaedic resident at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center. He completed his residency at New York Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital where he served as chief resident. Dr. Wert went on to complete a sports medicine fellowship at the prestigious Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Jackson, Mississippi and Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. In addition, Dr. Wert was chosen for the International Cartilage Repair Society Traveling Fellowship, where he worked alongside world renowned surgeons in Europe.

As a fellow in Jackson and New Orleans, Dr. Wert was fortunate enough to train with some of the most respected Arthroscopic surgeons in America and three past presidents of the Arthroscopic Association of North America. As a fellow in the International Cartilage Repair Society traveling fellowship, Dr. Wert was able to work with one of the most renowned group of knee surgeons in Europe.

Clinically Dr. Wert understands the importance of incorporating a multidisciplinary approach to treatment, and works with his patients to develop alternative exercise programs and utilizes innovative therapies to speed up the recovery process safely. Dr. Wert specializes in the arthroscopic minimally invasive treatment of shoulder, elbow, hip, knee, and ankle injuries, with the highest importance on protecting repairing, and restoring the patients native cartilage.

Dr. Wert has extensive experience treating pediatric to professional athletes and looks forward to continuing to keep New York’s athletic and Orthopaedic population at the top of their game.
